قبل التحاقه بأكاديمية ربدان، كان الدكتور جلن فرناندز أستاذا مشاركا في معهد إدارة الكوارث وإعادة الأعمار، وهو معهد مُشترك بين جامعة سِشوان وجامعة بوليتكنك هونغ كونع في جنغدو، الصين. وهو مُخطِط بيئي معتمد في الفلبين. وهو أيضا مدير مخاطر في مجلس التقييم والاعتماد بشهادة مؤسسة المواصفات والمقاييس العالمية، وهو مدقق داخلي معتمد، وحاصل على شهادة علمية من معهد استمرارية الأعمال. عمل الدكتور جلن سابقا كباحث في المركز الأسيوي لجاهزية الكوارث في بانكوك، تايلاند. كما عمل أيضا في كلية الدراسات البيئية العالمية في جامعة كيوتو في اليابان. أدت أبحاثه ودعواته التي استمرت لعقد من الزمان والمتعلقة بمشاركة الشباب في الحد من مخاطر الكوارث إلى اختياره كواحد من الفائزين بجائزة "أفضل عشرة شباب" لعام 2019 وكواحد من الفائزين بجائزة " Panama ng Pilipino " الرئاسية لعام 2021. كان الدكتور جلن باحثا شابا في برنامج البحث المتكامل في مخاطر الكوارث. بعد دعوة عالمية تنافسية للمتقدمين، تم اختيار جلن ليكون "مسؤول الحياة المهنية المبكرة" في ركيزة "الحلول المستدامة من الجنوب العالمي" في مؤتمر الأبحاث والابتكار في مجال الاستدامة لعام 2021. يُعتبر الدكتور جلن واحدا من عشرة ممثلين لباحثي الحياة المهنية المبكرة في الجمعية العامة لمستقبل الأرض. عمل الدكتور جلن في أبحاث إدارة مخاطر الكوارث ومشاريع تنمية القدرات في الصين وفيجي وإندونيسيا واليابان وميانمار ونيبال والفلبين وتايلاند وفيتنام. كان الدكتور جلن محررا لقسم "التقدم في علوم الكوارث" في مجلة "السيفير" وهو حاليا محرر مشارك في مجلة التطوير البيئي.
