رون ماثيوز يشغل منصب رئيس قسم القدرات الدفاعية والأمنية. وهو أيضًا أستاذ زائر في كلية كرانفيلد للدفاع والأمن في أكاديمية الدفاع بالمملكة المتحدة، وشغل سابقًا منصب مدير برنامج اقتصاديات الدفاع في كلية سير راجراتنام للدراسات الدولية، جامعة نانيانغ للتكنولوجيا، سنغافورة. تكمن خبرة رون البحثية في التصنيع الدفاعي والتعويضات الدفاعية (اوفست Offset) وقد كتب العديد من المقالات في هذه المجالات وألف عدة كتب، آخرها هو الاقتصاد السياسي للدفاع، مطبعة جامعة كامبريدج (2019). حصل رون على العديد من المنح الدراسية من منظمة حلف شمال الأطلسي والبنك الدولي ومجلس البحوث الاقتصادية والاجتماعية في المملكة المتحدة.
