حصل د. فارام تير ماتيسيان على درجة الدكتوراه في التاريخ من جامعة برجين (النرويج)، ودرجة الماجستير من جامعة لاند (السويد)، ومرشح دكتوراه في العلوم التاريخية من معهد الدراسات الشرقية (أرمينيا)، والبكالوريوس في التاريخ من جامعة ولاية يريفان (أرمينيا). كان د. فارام أستاذ زائر بجامعة ديوك، وحصل على منحة فولبرايت بجامعة كاليفورنيا في بيركلي بولاية كاليفورنيا (2009-2010)، كما كان طالب دكتوراه زائر بجامعة واشنطن بمدينة سياتل ولاية واشنطن (2005).
وعمل كزميل باحث أول بمعهد الدراسات الشرقية بالأكاديمية الوطنية للعلوم في جمهورية أرمينيا، وعمل كأستاذ مشارك ببرنامج العلوم السياسية والشؤون الدولية في الجامعة الأمريكية بأرمينيا.
